1841 Census - CHARGE - Little Hadham
« on: Monday 06 February 06 19:48 GMT (UK) »
I would be grateful for any assistance in locating a Mary CHARGE in the 1841 Census at Little Hadham HERTS.

I estimate that Mary would be aged around 15-20 at this time.

Regards,

James

Hi James,

Found a Mary Charge on the 1841 age 15 a servant living with the Elcock family at Ash, Little Hadham. (Ref.107/443/8  F.19. P.31.)

There are two other entries  at Little Hadham which no doubt link with Mary, firstly Ann Charge  60  living with John and Jane Brett and family at Bury Green, Little Hadham and living next door  the following  ...
John Charge  40  Ag Lab
Joyce Charge 35
William 15   -   John 13   -   Martha 10   -   Abraham 8   -   Joyce 6   -   Emma 3   -   George 5m.
Ref.107/443/8  F.8. P9/10.  Bury Green, Little Hadham.
All the above were born in county.
Adult ages in 1841 rounded down to nearest 5.

Hope this helps.

Regards   ...   Peter

Peter,

Many thanks for your prompt response. This confirms to me the details of Mary's immediate family, as at 1841. An added bonus is discovering that Ann Charge, Mary's grandmother, was still alive then.

Regards,

James,

Hi James,

I searched the Little Hadham PRs and found the following entry   ...

John Charge, bachelor and Joice Osborne, spinster, were married by banns with consent of Joshua Hale on 25th November 1823 at Little Hadham. Witnesses Joshua Hale and Joice Watts.
(Joice Osborne and Joshua Hale signed whilst the other two made their mark)

Hope this helps.
