Worcestershire - Bromedge
« on: Wednesday 08 February 06 17:55 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find information on the Bromedge family. I have a letter from my 5th great grandfather to his son about his mother " The family of the Bromedges was originally from Worcestershire and is , I believe, now extinct." The letter was dated 27th November 1809. If anyone has information on this surname I would really appreciate any help. Thank you

Hello Palla, welcome to RootsChat  :)

On the 1841 census there are 40 + Bromidge/Bromige/Bromage surnames in Worcestershire!

Any one in particular you are looking for and what age and area living.

Wow! you are fast, thank you for the welcome and your quick response.
The letter as I said was written in 1809 and the names mentioned in it are : Sir Adm. Hugh Bromedge (died  aft 1790)
Capt. John Bromedge  & Sarah Leath (married 1762)
Harriet Bromedge & Capt. Henry Caldwell * (married 1785)
Lt. Charles Caldwell & Susan Blagge
*Harriet was born in 1762 St.Nicholas, Great Yarmouth and is burried @ St. Pancras Church Yard London 1793

Lt Charles Caldwell was born 1793 Parish of Wolworth

That is about all the information I have. I know that Sarah Leath Bromedge was alive in 1809 when the letter was posted and that she was living in Gr. Yarmouth

Hi Palla,

1841 census Worcestershire is not going to of much use as the dates are before 1800 and in Norfolk  ???

Have you tried a google search to see if anyone  is researching the name?

Google search brings up Capt. Hugh Bromedge, RN, a number of times.

regards

Susan  :)

Susan,
I have googled...I did find stuff on Hugh Bromedge- he was quite a character- I was trying to go from him back and the letter stated the family was from Worcestershire and I thought I would try there.
Well thank you for your help and  I will keep searching.

Hello.  I'm in touch with someone who mentions exactly the same name (Hugh Bromedge).
One ancestor ''died about 1714 in Worcs and married a lady by the name of Mary Franklin on 17 July 1733 in Holborn in Lincolns Inn Chapel.''
There ws another one, a merchant who went bankrupt.

Have you tried Peerage sites or Three Decks?

Good luck!
