Trying to find an alien
« on: Friday 24 September 04 23:24 BST (UK) »
no ...not that sort of alien...  sorry my sense of humour creeping in. I would  welcome any advice on how to  trace Spanish ancesters.

Manuel Silva was a Mariner who married and settle in our country in 1888. He was born in Galicia, N. Spain.

Thanks.

Well done empers.  ::)

Hi Globug,

I am moving this post into our immigration board where it is certain to be seen by researchers with experience of overseas research.  I do not know if we have a Spanish expert,  but if we have that is the place to find them.  ;D

Hi Globug,

I'm not a spanish expert, but my first "port-of-call" for any foreigners or immigrants is always http://www.geneanet.org/

click on "search by country" and enter "silva" and "ESP Spain" and you get 530 results.  I have no idea of spanish geography, but if you find a likely one, click on the contact info. and you usually find a website with a family tree. If your (known or unknown) relatives have also been trying to trace their family, you could get lucky.

Hope this helps. and that you do get lucky !

Just been re-reading your posting. I may have got the cart before the horse.

Are you trying to trace him, before he came to Britain, in which case the above applies, or are you trying to found out what happened to him after he settled here ?

Hi mobo,

sorry, but I can't remember exactly.
Look through the thread "Just trying this out" in "the lighter side". There are a couple of smiley sites listed there.
If they are not on any of those sites, try feeding google with "smileys" and with "smilies". That will give you some more sites to try.
