1891 Census - Hayter - COMPLETED WITH THANKS TO MUDDY WATERS
« on: Friday 10 February 06 01:57 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please do a look up for me on 1891 census for Albert Hayter.  His wife had died by them but his children on 1881 were John, Samuel, Charlotte, Mary, Frank, Albert and Hedley (11 months).  They were living in Swallowcliffe.

Many thanks.

Zephyr

Hi
Cannot find an Albert hayter on 1891 census living in Swallowcliffe.  There is however, a Hedley Hayter aged 10, described as a son with parent William aged 51, and Mary J described as William's wife.  William is a Pondmaker and was born in Tisbury.  His wife Mary was born in Swallowcliffe.  They live at Rookery Cottage

Hello Muddy

I'm sure this is the right family.  On 1901 census he is age 61 and down as a Pond Maker and Dairy Farmer and his wife is Mary J (59) with Mary Daughter 28 (Cook-Domestic) and Frank son 26 (Well Sinker) in Swallowcliffe.

On 1881 census they are living at 'Rookley' Lane, Swallowcliffe.

Do you think you could let me have full details of the entry on the census (are there any other children at home?).  It looks like he has married for the second time so I shall look for marriage, which with your information narrows it down by ten years for me!

With many thanks.

Hello Muddy

Thank you for coming back to me with census info.  Looks like Mary and Frank returned to the family home for 1901 census.

Many thanks indeed for your trouble.

Regards.

Hello Zephyr

Muddy is right, Mary was William Hayter's second marriage.  First was to Eliza Brockway (c1840) - 19/02/1861.

I know quite a bit re this family - how can I help you?

Hello Bahtat

With a name like that you must be from Yorkshire! - just like me.

I must have been having a senior moment when I put my request on the board.  I of course meant William Hayter on 1891 census (Albert wasn't married by then).  I obviously had Albert on the brain.  Albert married Annie Maria Davis, who would have been my great great Aunt on my father's maternal side.  I have 1881 and 1901 census information on Albert but would have liked 1891 to see if there were any more children after Hedley.  Can you help in this respect, please?  Do you by any chance know if Albert and Annie had any children and if so who?  Did they stay in the Hindon area?  With living in Yorkshire, the only information I have is from the censuses, familysearch and freebmd.  Wiltshire and Cambridgeshire are not exactly on the doorstep to check parish records.  If you can add any info in regard to Albert and Annie it would be appreciated.

Best wishes.

Zephyr

Hello Zephyr

Yep - not too difficult to work out where I am now settled, having emigrated from Swallowcliffe in deepest Wiltshire a good few years ago!

As far as I know, Hedley was the last child.  The link is that Frank was my grandfather.

I don't have any detail of Albert and Annie's children (if any), although I do have vague recollections from my childhood of my father mentioning "Uncle Albert", and there being a branch of the family still in Hindon.

I have Annie's middle name as being "Marion" as opposed to Marie.  Easy to confuse from hand-written records - how confident are you that Marie is correct?  I have their marriage dated 14th May 1900 at the Wesleyan Chapel, Hindon.

The reason Albert is missing from Swallowcliffe in the 1891 census is that he was staying at his Aunt Elizabeth (Moxham)'s house in Ebbesbourne Wake!  Hope that helps!  Suggest you PM me if you'd like to know more about the earlier Hayter clan.

Regards
