RAF personnel - how to trace

hi im looking for any info on my grandad while he was in the RAF. This was between 1948-9. I have his ref number thingy. He was at RAF Melksham i think. I also know that he deserted the RAF....
any ideas? any websites that could help?

he was also in the navy - i have his number and all the details....im trying to fin d out anything i can about him...

I have my Dad's RAF service from WW2, I'm assuming yours would be similar.  This it what it has on it:

Page 1:
Full name, dob, place of birth
Civilian occupation, Employer, dates employed
Marriage date & place, wifes maiden name
Childrens names & dob
Next of kin - name & address (kept up to date - written in pencil)
Date of enlistment & details of other former service
Physical decription - height, weight etc
Home address
Good conduct badges
Discharge details

Page 2:
Dates & places of all postings (mine took quite a bit of deciphering!) - yours may have more detail about the postings themselves.  Mine was written during the war and was therefore brief!  The letter that came with it from Innsworth, implied that there are often more details of postings and movements on record.
Annual assessment
Dates of promotions & reclassifications
Special qualifications
