I have mentioned this elsewhere, but it's a great resource, and belongs here as well:

4 volume book:  A Dictionary of Scotttish Emigrants to Canada before Confederation, by Donald WHYTE.  1986.

This is available in many libraries worldwide, usually in the Reference Department.
