Do yo have a record of John Base, c1827 from Norwich or Yarmouth who may have been a corporal in the Crimean War?

there were a lot of men fighting in the Crimean War in lots of different regiments!!

His father was William Base and his mother Hannah. His father was in the shoe trade. John was born in Norwich in abt 1827 and could not be found until he married in 1855 to Maria Bell of Gt Yarmouth. In 1861 he lived in Yarmouth and his occupation was shoemaker. The reference to the Crimean War is in some notes left by a member of his family.

Hi Bobtonks !

What did it say in the notes? was there anything about the Charge of the Light Brigade ? or something similar - that we could get an idea of dates - places etc

No. All it said was 'John came to Yarmouth as a Corporal in the Militia, Crimea War.'

My John Base was 34 years in 1861 so I guess this is not my man.  It is odd that you found another John Base as it is not a common name. Thanks for looking.
