Yokker surname( completed)
« on: Monday 13 February 06 10:58 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the origins of a surname, at first it was suggested that it may be Dutch, I have however enquired about that, and it is not really, but possible could be connected in S.A.?

an ancestor married a man named Lawrence Yokker, his father was Gerard Yokker.
Do you think its possible they could have come from SA ?
The people concerned were living in Ontario Canada. and married in 1911
Thank you if you can help.

Hi there,
There are no Yokkers listed in the archives at all so I doubt that it is of South african origin.
Not perhaps Spanish?

Thank you, further imvestigation revealed that Lawrence Yokker was a Dutchman, at least he was born & died there anyway.
Thanks for your reply
