What is this WW1 medal for?
« on: Friday 17 February 06 15:19 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone recognise this medal? I'm sorry the pic isn't brilliant.
On a blue and white ribbon says: Presented by Lloyds and on the back :For Meritorious Services

I have scrolled round loads of sites and not found it
Many thanks

I would imagine it is the Lloyds Meritorious Service medal.

His name was Captain James Lee. He recieved the DSC for sinking a U-boat. He was a merchant seaman, very few guns.

Do you recognise my other medal that is also on this board?

Sorry, that was a bit confusing. The details round the edge of the coin belongs to the medal in this picture 'What is this WW1 medal for?'

Captain James Lee was my Great Uncle. He was in command of the Q ship Thessaly when they sank a U boat. There is an account of the incident in the Liverpool Echo. I have not got details to hand but I know there was one casualty, the cook, and a shell hole in the Thessaly's funnel.
Are you a descendant of James?

Yes I am, he is my Great Grandfather.

How cool to find another  relation  ;D

Do you know what happened to his father Captain Thomas Lee, he was lost at sea and that is all I know?
