Can anyone please tell me where i can find Bottoms Yard, or Boltons Yard on the 1861 Census. I believe it was near Mersey Street.

Hi Blue-Sten
The 1861 is not searchable by Address, but if you post full details of who you hope to be living there , then someone will look it up for you

Just thought someone might know which district it was in on the census.

I am looking for William Grainger who died there in 1866 and thought he may have been there in 1861. i can not find him by searching on his name

He's presumably then not one of the ones who comes up straight away! Do you have any other details- age, family etc

He would be living alone, presumably as I have found all the other family members living away from home.  He would be 69 years old - I know he died in 1866 aged 74. He worked as an Iron Moulder and a Publican in the past and was the Publican of the Moulders Arms on Mersey Street in 1851. By 1861, his daughter and her husband are running it.

On his death cert, it says he died at Boltons Yard, next to Mersey Street. i presume he was there in 1861 too. I just can't find it on the 1861 census to find out if my theory is right....!

Any help would be very gratefully received!

Boltons yard is off Mersey and just west of Littons row.
I have a copy of the 1888 survey map which shows it clearly. I tried to upload a copy with this reply but my poor old P3 just hangs up. If you want a copy I can email you one.  email address removed to stop spam
Also I see you have listings for william at Moulders arms.
The address of The moulders arms is #38 Mersey st. and not 45 which is actually the enumerators household schedule # as he walked the street.

Well it seems I went down the same rabbit hole after getting a copy of my 4x Great Grandfather's death certificate _ William Grainger. Could you guys possibly share the whereabouts of the maps you are referencing? I got OS maps form the 1800's and I dont see what was referenced in these posts.

I'm actually from Warrington and now live in the US and piecing this together for my grandkids.

I actually dismissed the census that mentioned being a publican as it did not seem to fit the Iron Moulder in most other documents. Which of his daughters took over the moulders arms?
