WW1 casualty
« on: Friday 17 February 06 16:40 GMT (UK) »
I hope that someone can advicse me on this one:

I would like to trace my great uncle that I know was killed in WW1 and have checked through the War Graves Commission web site - there are 3 possibles on there.  Is there any way I can get more information, the web site doesn't seem to say and says I can send off ofr a death certificate.  I am not really sure how I do this on the web sites.

The man in question is Alfred Hicks and there are a couple of A Hicks that look like possibles and I would like to know if there is a way of confirming this.  happy to send of for the death certificates if this is possible.

The problem is I have very little as my Dad was not born at the time, and his father cut himself off from the family.

I know he was born in 1894 from census records and have not sent off for a birth certificate but looks like he was born 1st qtr 1894 in Pancras.

Son of Henry and Minnie Hicks.  He does not appear to have a middle name.  I can send off for the birth certificate and see if it tells me anymore.

My grandfather was William Arthur and was born in 1892 St Pancras and they were apparently quite close.  I don't know if they served togther, Grandad lost the bottom half of his leg during the war, I don't know if we know exactly how.
