CENSUS HELP

Can anyone help, I have hit a wall with info regarding my paternal grandfather and his family, I am pretty sure they came from Glasgow, ALFRED HENRY THOMPSON was my grandfathers name, he was born in either 1880 or 1882,  possibly had brothers Sid and Ted ( could be abbreviated ). I believe the family were fairground folk and at some stage were associated with a travelling show called Thompson & Thurston. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

Scottish birth certificates can be found at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, along with the census records from 1861 to 1901.  If your ancestor was born in Scotland, his details should be on there.  It costs £6 for 30 credits.  Viewing the results of a search will use 1 credit, viewing an image of a certificate or census page will use 5 credits (except 1881 census, which only uses 1 credit as it is a transcription, not an image of the document itself).

From running a free search on Scotlands people (i.e.not viewing the results as I have run out of credits!) it looks like there was 1 Alfred Thompson and 6 Alfred Thomsons born in Scotland between 1880 and 1882.  Maybe one of them will be yours.

Do you know the names of Alfred's parents, as that will help you possibly track the family down in the census records and give you an idea of the birth dates of his siblings?
