Minor problem:

www.ellisisland.org shows a Robert CHARLES Gibbons arrived 1912 aged 27 - he's a Valet, headed for NY.  Previously lived in Camberwell - I think this might be the one found in 1920.  Age and occupation would fit.

hmm, yes, thank you, your right, age and occupation do fit with robert charles.

robert thomas was apprenticed as a saddler according to the 1901 uk census.

 i have not been able to find him listed on the ellis island site.  but apparently immigrants entered through other ports as well.
