Help with BMD records for Thurles, Tipperary
« on: Wednesday 22 February 06 23:15 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find a marriage record for Thomas WADSWORTH and Mary UNKNOWN as well as a birth record for their son Tony.  I have very little information to offer sorry.........this is what I know:  Tony is the only name on the back of baby pictures I have for him, so I don' t think that he was ever know as Anthony other than PERHAPS his birth certificate.  I also think he was born around 1930, so, I'm supposing that his parents were married a year or two prior.

My question is this.........Is there an Irish site similar to the Free BMD site that I can search these records for free?

Thank you in advance for any help anyone can give me............Nancy
Surnames: Wadsworth; Chipchase; Hakin (Hagen?); Peel; Willis
Areas of Research:  Yorkshire; Northumberland; Somerset, Wedmore

Try http://pilot.familysearch.org (and be sure to read the RootsChat thread here http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=357532 first!)

{Whoops - just noticed this post's over 3 years old. Guess you've found your answer elsewhere or given up!}
Most roots researched back to the early/mid 1800s. Years noted as 'pre' refer to my direct ancestors, although I'm interested in any relatives:
Mitchelstown, Co.Cork: CORBETT (pre1935), SWEENEY  (pre1935), CUSACK? (pre1894), KEYS? (pre1894)
Mallow, Co.Cork: BROWNE (1895-1935)
Caher, Co.Tipp: BROWNE (pre1895), PURTELL(pre1895)
Cashel, Co.Tipp: FANNING (pre1886)
Llanelly, Carms: GRIFFITHS (pre1934), REYNOLDS (pre1901), WILLIAMS (pre1934)
Ton Pentre, Glams: LEWIS (pre1901)

That Mormon index site gives a Thomas Henry Wadsworth married Oct/Dec 1927 in Carlow District Ref vol 3 page 234

You can buy a copy from the Irish Government site, but cannot do it online, you have to download the form and send it with credit card details to Roscommon.

Carlow District does apparently cover parts of Laois. You would need to check what it does cover. As you do not know his wife's Surname, you cannot do the crosscheck to avoid haing to buy the cert.

There is a Patrick A Wadsworth born in Carlow District in Jul/Sep 1929 with mothers surname of Maher. When I plug that back into the Mormon site, it is indeed a Mary Maher that marries in Carlow then

That's the family group certainly, if your man is Patrick A Wadsworth then its him, if not then there do not seem to be any other options in Irish records.

I also dont see a good match for the birth of Tony/Anthony. These are the birth details for the Wadsworth/Maher family in 1929 that corisande mentioned :

 Name: Patrick A Wadsworth
 Registration district: Carlow
quarter and year: Jul - Sep 1929
 Mother's surnames: Maher
 Volume: 3 / Page: 264

maybe his middle name was Anthony and that's what he was known by in later years..

p.s. you can search for a cross match for a marriage using just a first name, once you have a possible match for the husband to check against.
