Why are so many pages missing from the Ancestry BMD? and why are these always pages that I want?

If you are looking at the FreeBMD bit then it is not full coverage by any means.   They do have the original index on ancestry if you scroll down once you are in the Free bit.  There is an option to look at the full image.   However you have to be inventive!   I think they must have scanned them in or something and the computer has misread some.  Try another name very close in the alphabet then use the buttons at the top to go to the next page and so on.  You might get there in the end!

Thanks Andrea,

I have tried and been successful with the similar name dodge but often, when  try to move to the next, or preceeding page, I can see that there is a gap in the page numbers - no way around that!

Same here johnl, there are a lot missing. I had some unused units on Family Relatives which I have now used up looking for the missing ones but at least you know which quarters to look for then!

Yes, I used the page shuffling trick to get to pages that seemed to be missing. However I have noticed that some pages that I have visited previously are just not there now. The pages available show gaps in their numbering ie page 33 follows page 31 proving 32 has disappeared. I thought I must have been dreaming until I noticed the page numbers.
Not perfect but it has been very useful AND FREE!!

I thought that whole sections were missng,  like in one quarter there were no 'S' at all...doh, what not even any Smiths...can't be, but i found that some times they are just in the wrong order :(..now, how did I find mine?  Right, get a scanned image of a page in the right quarter...any name, then hover over the quarter details on the top bar, it should change colour.  If you click that you get an alphabet and thoses links seem to work better ;D

Sorry if I have either confused or worse tried to teach granny to suck eggs :-X :-[, but for me it was a real eureka moment ;D, so jic it helps someone! ;D
Stiff - Monmouthshire & Glos, Parry - Monmouthshire
Stafford - Glos, Liles - Glos, Bright- Glos, Webb - Monmouthshire & Glos, Smart - Glos, Smith - Glos
Sullivan - Ireland, Jones (oh dear! Almost as bad as Smith), Walker - Somerset, Llewellyn
And, no don't laugh...Crump...I think it's great!

And of course, if I ever do manage to do a successful look up it is crown copyright and all that legal stuff!

Basically, I don't believe everything I see when looking at the results of the search up on screen.  I was looking at one year and all four quarters shown were described as October to December.  When I looked at the first one it was actually Jan-Mar  ::)

You can also change the url to find what you seek...and that in itself will tell you that there are indeed several images missing...I think that there is a problem..but I am sure they will find it and fix it...as it's been said, great to have, anyway!

if you want to jump several pages ahead, just change the page number in the
url... and also the Jan-Feb-Mar to Apr-May-Jun (etc) or whatever page is missing.
If it isn't showing these in the url just use the arrow to the right and it should show you the url on the next page.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned that there's no point in using the given as the database doesn't use it, anyway

All the best, J.J.
