Hi Valerie,
Thank you so much for the info!
Do you know if I would be able to find Cornelius in anything earlier than the 1850 census?

Regards

Cathy

Found this tidbit, Cathy

http://www.heritagepursuit.com/Wyandot/WyCh11.htm

By turning to the court records it is ascertained that in 1847 Joseph T. Torrey was denied the right to maintain a ferry over the Tymochtee Creek, on the State road leading from Upper to Lower Sandusky. In July of that year, however, Jacob Bugh and Daniel F. Hodge, under the firm name of Bugh & Hodge, were granted the privilege of keeping and maintaining for one year " a ferry over the Sandusky River where the road crosses the said river, east of McCutchenville;" and at November term, 1848, Michael Noel and Cornelius Shaw were granted a license for one year to keep and maintain a ferry " at a point on the Tymochtee Creek, where the road leading from Upper Sandusky to McCutchenville crosses said creek."

Hi Cathy
There is only one listing for Cornelius Shaw in Ohio in 1840. Unfortunately, it only provides the name of the head of household, and ages for others.

Cornelius Shaw....
Ohio, Geauga County, Troy Township
In the house:
Males:
1 age between 1 and 5
1 age between 40 and 50

Females
1 age between 5 and 10
1 age betwen 20 and 30

I'm not sure where Geauga County is, nor whether this is "your" Cornelius, but one never knows.

Thank you for the details for 1840. Will try and see if I can prove if this is my "Cornelius" .
