US (NY?) look up please - HUGHES after 1880

Hope some kind soul can help with this.

My G Uncle ABEL HUGHES is missing!

I have this from the UK 1881 census:
Born Manchester, England c1853
Married to Mary E (nee Sharp), b Glossop, Derbyshire c1855
Daughter Catherine (Katherine?), b Manchester c1800

The family do not appear again in the UK.

An Abel Hughes arrived at Ellis Island July 16 1908 (on the Carmania, dep Liverpool) when he was already an American citizen. He was travelling with Katherine Hughes (spinster). Both are the right age based on the 1881 census info.

I am assuming this would be the return journey from a visit back to the UK.

A family member suggests he settled in New York, but I don't have any proof. Nor do I know when the family emigrated - only that it must have been after the 1881 UK census.

Any info/suggestions gratefully received.

I don't have access to the details but I see there's a Catherine Hughes born England ca. 1879 and an Abel Hughes born ca. 1850 England living in New Castle Delaware on the 1900 census. Looks promising 
Still in Newcastle Delaware (can't tell if it's the same household) Anna born 1882 and Arthur born 1884.
Looks good - he's still around in Newcastle Delaware in 1910 and 1920 where it says born 1853  It seems 1920 also gives the emigration year! Can't wait for someone to give you the details!

Anna and Arthur are new to me - perhaps they are more of Abel's children. I'll have a quick hunt around for them in the UK.

One thing, could you just tell me what the headings would be for the various columns? I'm not sure what some of the info means.
