Hi Rustie,

There are many Jolliffe's in Portisham but I cannot find a Mary born in 1786 on the BVRI.

There is an entry on the IGI of Mary being Christened 24 August 1786  but this is a submitted entry which should be carefully checked.

Kind Regards,

Frances :)

Thanks for the information.  I only know about William, so any siblings would be great.  I did look at Mathew and Hannah as his parents but was not sure if they were right.  The information I had gave a wedding date of 16 April 1764 in Beaminster.  It seemed strange that William was not christened until 1785, especially with the trend of a baby a year!  Are you sure about Matthew and Hannah's wedding date of 9 April 1812?

Stop apologizing anyone can make a mistake.  You do not know how happy  I am to have this additional information. Perhaps it is a cheek to ask but do you know who Matthews parents were or Hannah's maiden name?  The only marriage record I found in Portesham was for a James Pitman and Joan Ford on 7 January 1740 but can in no way relate these so far to Matthew or William.  Maybe I should look in another village, your info suggests Cheddi or Long Bredy.  It is somewhere else to look!

Thanks again

Hi Lorraine,

The only marriage on the BVRI of a Matthew Pitman in Dorset was to  a Mary Symes in 1798, way out for you.

I have just looked at the IGI for the marriage you mentioned for Matthew in 1764. The maiden name for Hannah on that entry was Boiling. Again this  was submiited by a member of the LDS with no scource given. This cannot be taken for granted and needs to be confirmed.

Have you had a search through this site? It is well worth searching if you have not done it already.
