1841 Census Lookup, please - BEALE
« on: Tuesday 28 February 06 19:20 GMT (UK) »
HI. I am looking for John and/or Mary Beale, possibly living in Portsea. John may have been deceased already, if so you may see Mary as widow. Children with her may have included her youngest, Elisha (b. Sussex 1834), who would have been about 7 at the time.

If Mary was dead by that time also, may find Elisha and sibs living in household of maternal relatives with surname Stroud.

Appreciate any info.  :D

Hi timp

If you haven't already found this family perhaps you could post a little more info. Do you know any other children's names, where anybody was born & rough dates of birth, including parents?

I can't find an Elisha born Sussex c1834 but either myself or someone else might have more success with another name.

Regards
Sally

Hi Sally,
Thanks for your note. Since my original post, I have  found out more about this family. Children of John Beale and Mary Stroud Beale (1791-1838) were:
Elijah John (1811)
William (1813)
James Henry (1815)
Tobias (1816)
Mary Ann (1818)
Jane (1820)
Lucy (1821)
Charlotte (1823)
Eliza (1825)
Ellen (1827)
John (1829)
Elisha (1834)

They lived at West Itchenour, Sussex.

I have traced the maternal side of the family, but have had no luck on the Beale side. Both John and Mary seem to have been deceased by the 1841 census (found a burial date for Mary but not John. Perhaps he died at sea? Also no clue on his birthplace. . .maybe Hampshire?) Any add'l info on this family wlecome. timp

Hi timp

Ancestry is playing me up at the moment but managed to find what I think is one of your family.

1841 HO107/1103/3 folio 6  pg 7, 1household, no address
West Itchenor, Sussex
all born Sussex except Mary who was born out of County.
BEALE
Elijah,25,Mariner
Mary,25
Ellen,13
Susan,8
John,12
Elisha,7
John,1

Looks like Elijah may have some of his siblings living with him.

Regards
Sally
