This looks like a strange negative/positive photo of my great great grandmother.

Is it possible to enhance it in any way and actually see a clearer picture?

There isn't a huge amount of info in the facial area of this picture, but a quick histogram adjustment and a multiplying overlay brings out some more contrast in the rest of the picture.

I'm sure a lot more could be done with it with some work.

I had a play myself after seeing what tremendous results everyone had and this was my "enhancement" (not!)  -

I really didn't think that there was any hope for this picture - but you have all proved me wrong.
