Romany/Gypsy heritage
« on: Friday 10 March 06 05:56 GMT (UK) »
Is anyone good at helping people track their possible Romany background? I know there is a website devoted to this, but wondered if anyone on this List had an interest.

I am researching YOUNGs and REEVES, BOXses and TUDGEYs in Worcestershire. And SMITHs in Essex and Norfolk.

TUDGEY; STEVENS (Surrey); SMITH (Surrey, Essex, Norfolk); WILKS (Worcs); YOUNG (Worcs); COWLEY (Ireland, Surrey); GROVE (Hampshire); REEVES (Gloucs. Hi Jamie

If you try the Search Rootschat button above, you will find plenty of references to travellers/ gypsies.

the other thing to try is the Surname Interest Table, which is at the bottom of each page (or should that be screen?)

There are a few people with an interest in the subject, so hopefully they will find this thread.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Thank you Arranroots. I'll try those options now. By the way, I notice that you have WEBBs in your family. So do I, from Bucks and Surrey.

Hello again Jamie  :)

My WEBBs went from Gloucestershire to Monmouthshire and back to Bristol.  I have another line in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

If you want to post specific questions about your romany families, we would be happy to try and help.  I would recommned starting a new thread, as it will attract more attention than one that has already received answers.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)
