Thank you for your reply Marl.  I've had a look at the Joiner Buckley topic. The only connection I think could be a possiblity is the daughter of Cornelius who married a John Ball. Because I do have BALL in my Essex ancestry too.

"Emily c.10.10.1853 Baldock m.John  Ball"

I'll have to check on this.

Who were your Essex Smiths? My Norfolk connection is with a Samuel SMITH who married a Sophia WRIGHT, but I haven't got many details about them.

hi there,
unsure if this is same person but there was a samuel buckley, brother to joiner buckley. sam was transported and did return to england. supposedly ended up with a woman named sarah. just wondering whether you have a smith who used the name buckley and vice versa, possibly worth a look

Thank you. I don't think that fits with my Samuel SMITH because he married a Sophia. But I've got some WEBBs from Bucks and Surrey. I've wondered if they had any Romany connection but haven't found any. They came from Bucks and were paper makers there before going to Surrey.

hello jamie
my webbs are a bit of a mysyery for me.  i have details of the sarah (nee pearse) and thomas webb about mid 1850's to 1920ish and they had 9 children to my knowledge.
then i have william (1867-1913) and sarah webb (1870-1942). her parents were thomas and sarah above and i know that williams dad was called thomas also but do not believe they are brother and sister (definately not) . the names are just quite common for that time really. william and sarah had 8 children as far as i know, there may be more for both but they may have died. the details above i know from very elderly relatives who just about remember but other than that i cannot find any more info. so if any of your webbs match i would be more than pleased to know. i did find will and sarah on 1901 census in southminster but thats about it.

there is a samuel smith in america in 1880 aged 44yrs with his wife patience and their children, 4 boys 1 girl. found this on roots chat listed as romani in america census records. worth a look for others. sorry not any help to you though jamie

I wonder if my WEBBs might be connected, Amanda. Here are the details I have:

I have Thomas WEBB, son of John WEBB and Rhoda STEVENS bapt. 25 Jan. 1848 Send and Ripley, Surrey.

Thomas William WEBB bap. 19 April 1857 at Palgrave, Suffolk. Son of John WEBB and Rhoda STEVENS.

John WEBB came from High Wycombe, Bucks. He and Rhoda had children:
Eliza Ann
Sarah Jane
Thomas
John
Rhoda
Emily
Mark
Thomas William

Rhoda (STEVENS) WEBB was the daughter of Thomas STEVENS and Sarah BONSEY. She and John were married 10 Feb. 1846 at St. Peter’s Church, Woking, Surrey.

I don't know who the wives were for Thomas or Thomas William WEBB. Maybe we should post a new Topic under the name WEBB?

Well, when I looked back I realise they (or she)  aren't in my direct line, but what I have is this:

In Essex I have Richard PORTER born 1776, who married Sarah CABLE (or CABELL) on 11 May 1806 at Christchurch, Latchingdon Cum Snoreham.

Their children were Mary Ann, James and William (may have been more)

Mary Ann married Samuel George SMITH 23 Sept. 1833 at Latchingdon Cum Snoreham, Essex.

James married Mary BALLS on 28 Sep. 1838. Mary lived in Snoreham. Her father was James BALLS, occupation – labourer. She was 26 and James was also 26. Witnesses to their wedding were Isaac Bonds (could be Bones) and Sarah Hart.

William married Eliza ABRAMS on 17 Oct. 1836 at Latchingdon Cum Snoreham, Essex.

Do you have any of these in your tree?

I'm sure I've seen BALL or BALLS on the census for Show people/travellers.
