MARINERS, PRIVATEERS, PIRATES
« on: Monday 26 January 04 10:26 GMT (UK) »
I've been looking for my Richard and Charlotte WHITFORD for so long.  They were in Liverpool at the birth of their son, and Richard was recorded as a mariner, but that's all I really know, apart from a vague possible link of a marriage in the Isle of Man.  It has occured to me that Richard could have been a pirate.  Now is I am casting a net looking for anyone with ideas or expertise in this area.

Any thoughts anyone?

Hello Ely-ite,
Richard  and Charlotte WHITFORD were in Liverpool at the christening of Robert Henry on October 11, 1814.
Best wishes

Hi,

I too have liverpool mariners and ships stewards in my tree.  They appear for marriages and are named on birth certificates, but have proved very hard to track down on a census.

Are there any records for mariners which might help?

For help with researching a mariner, check out some of the research guides at the National Maritime Museum site:

They're a good starting point.
