Ediburgh Police

???Can anyone assist or advise me on whether it is possible to obtain copy's of police personell files from the early 1800s.
The information I have is as follows:-
Duncan MacRae.born 1804 in I think it is STRATHCOUNA,DINGLE, ROSSHIRE.Assuming he would not join the force till around age 20 & he only served 4 years before moving to LIVERPOOL where he joined the police there aged 36 after working in a private company. So the period I am thinking of would be 1924 to early 1930s? allowing he may have joined at a slightly older age.
I am sorry to be so vague but am really clutching at straw as I can't seem to find a deffinite birth recoad for him. Any suggestions will be acknowleged.Thans.

The web site for the Edinburgh police is http://www.lbp.police.uk/index.asp
(Lothians and Borders Police Fettes Avenue Edinburgh)
Their web site does have full contact details, address, telephone number and email address .

Give them a try.

Joining this thread a year and a half late!

Just to say - I suspect your man's birth details should read "Strathconon, Dingwall, Rossshire (or Ross & Cromarty)" This was certainly a MacRae area.

All the best
