Hi Tanja,

I had found the 1881 census record for James and Ruth at 32 Moira Street, Loughborough.  James is listed as a Baghosier (cotton).  Thanks to you I now know Ruth's surname.  I have not been successful so far in trying to find out when William Pratt died.  Free BMD throws up the two entries below for Loughborough 1838 - 1851 but this isn't a complete index.

Surname  First name(s)  Age  District  Vol  Page
~~~~~~~~
Deaths Jun 1840
PRATT  William     Loughbro'  15 108
~~~~~~~~
Deaths Sep 1845

PRATT  William     Loughbro'  15 101

I know that Henry Harris married Elizabeth Pratt (nee Blood) in the 3rd Quarter 1851.  I have sent off for the marriage certificate.  William Pratt definately died between 1838 (when he is registered as the father of Henry Pratt) and 1851 (when Elizabeth was listed as a widow in the census and remarried later that year).  It is interesting that Ann (b1843), Thomas (b1846)and James (b1848) all have the name Pratt-Harris, whereas John (b1854) is just Harris.  It throws up interesting questions about who was the father of the 3 children preceding John.  Until I find out when William Pratt died it will remain a mystery.  Isn't it fascinating how finding answers to genealogical queries only throws up more questions.  I guess that's why it's so addictive.  Once again, thanks for all of your help.

I he's one of the above mentioned deaths, I'd put my money on 1840. There's qiute a gap between the first children and Ann, and according to Ann's christening in 1843 William isn't around anymore.

Hi Jane,
I think we've already spoken before.  Are you Jane Sharp?  If so we first corresponded back in March.  I'm Darren Harris.  I've got no new info on the Calow's to offer you I'm afraid.  Have you discovered anything new since March?
