Thomas Cockburn 1792( Help Plz )

At a dead end here trying too find out the parents of Thomas Cockburn born 1791-1792 Preston Berwickshire.
Thomas married Elspeth Kay in 1820 in Ratho. I have found 7 children for them all born in Fife : Largo, Scoonie etc.
I have found a 2 births  for a  Thomas on SP ,1 saying that he was born in Bunkle& Preston parents  Alexander Cockburn & Helen Platt .
Next sayin he was born in Prestonkirk , Archibald Cockburn & Janet Maclain as parents.
I have a lot of Alexanders in my line off Cockburns but no Archibalds. So Alexander would be my choice but how do i find out for sure ? Can anyone help me plz
