NEW YORK - Info btwn 1921 - 1927
« on: Saturday 18 March 06 13:24 GMT (UK) »
I believe my great grandfather obtained Naturalization in 1921 but died in 1927 in Richmond (now Staten Island) - Ive applied for the naturalization records and the death certificate just for confirmation BUT what sort of records could I trawl through in between these dates just to get a better idea of his life whilst in New York during this time?

I'm under the impression there was a NYC 1925 Census but there doesnt seem to be any actual true link to it to obtain the information.

So my research dates are 1921-1927 - Any advise or ideas would be appreciated please.

If you need it (been told off before for not providing enough information  ;)) his name was Arthur Edward Illingworth born Yorkshire 12th June 1882.

Thanks  ;D

http://www.genealogybranches.com/newyorkcensus.html - looks like it's a microfilm job, from this.

Another source of information might be voter records:

Staten Island is a borough of NYC in the County of Richmond. No name change.  You might want to check for a naturalization on the following index (updated regularly as more is transcribed).

You could ask for a look up in the Richmond category for a death record.

Also, contact the NYC archives for the death record. You have a small window so the price is not bad and the staff is able to work wonders with very little info.

You could look for a ship record at Ellis Island.

Did he marry in NYC? Look for his marriage record. Would have a lot of data.
