Wow! Kali - from  a whole lot of maybe's in the hills of Oz  to being able to walk over and stand on the street they probably played on as lads! Bonza! (as they might say in Oz)

Was no great sleuthing  ;D I came across the NAA a while ago and it's where I first look for Australia, the fact they digitise records and have them there to view for FREE viewing, is just a magnificent service.

Cheers ;D

Hi Kali!

Here's an address to put on the back burner - just in case !!  ::)
Your James Taylor from Essex says he's a "boatman" - if you can't find him any other way -
this gentleman may be able to help you !! A few people on this site have had help from him and were satisfied with his knowlege ...  :)

Mr John Roberts
The Inland waterways Trust
52 st Andrews Road
Sutton Coldfield
West Midlands. B75 6UH

Mr Roberts holds over 10000 slips or 15000+ records which have references to persons who had or have connections with the canals and navigable rivers in the UK. ie those with occupations given in records as boatmen, watermen, flatmen, boatbuilder, lock keeper boat owner etc etc. Records go back as far as the 1700s

Write sending a stamped addressed envelope (UK) or International reply coupon.

No Charge but a donation is welcome and very much appreciated - Cheques to the "Inland Waterways Index"

Kali

I found the same info as AMBLY about Thomas and John but on the WW2 Nominal Roll site here in Oz.

Try here  http://ww2roll.gov.au  and type in their names to begin your search.

It shows their Army numbers, rank, enlistment and discharge dates, where enlisted, next of kin and their posting.

You can save the information to your computer or print it off for your records.

I only found this site while searching for my dad's army record last year.
