Gormans from Donegal
« on: Sunday 19 March 06 12:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi, Iam searching for Thomas Gorman who married Mary Mcgill probably around 1838. They had a son John born about 1839 in Letterkenny and a daughter Mary. John travelled on the "Caribou" to Australia as part of the Donegal Relief Fund. I have been unable to find anything on Thomas or Mary. Would anyone have any idea where to start. Thanks Mariac

Hello mariac,

What denomination were Thomas and Mary?

You'll probably have to look at church records as the first Civil registrations in Ireland were non Catholic marriages which were introduced in 1845. Civil registration for all other marriages as well as births and deaths was not introduced in Ireland until 1864.
