I did it yesterday and have the relevant pages for him and his father from the Register of Seaman's Services. Briefly it tells you how tall they were and what they looked like, which ships they were on and for how long.

They come on Adobe and when I tried printing them off I wasn't very successful! But I have got them saved so until someone explains what I do to print them properly they will stay in My documents!

Why would I need his service record? There seem to be quite a lot of details on the pages I have.

Well you don't really if you just want to know what happend to him after he left the Navy in 1904, because apart from maybea discharge address (where he was going to live after the Navy) and details of pension if he was entitled probably not much.........really just wrote to make sure you had not overlooked that fact that you could obtain it if you wished, that's all  :D

Wouldn't I need to prove my relationship to him if I decide to obtain his service record? You see he was my grandfather's son by his first marriage and I am his daughter's offspring from his second marriage.

Nope,

Records pertaining to male Naval Officers who enlisted prior to 1914 and ratings who enlisted prior to 1924 are in the public domain and available from The National Archives.
