Wellington Yard, Keighley
« on: Friday 24 March 06 11:24 GMT (UK) »
I have a photograph of my great uncle Charles Owen, born 1879, Liverpool, taken at Wellington Yard, Hanover St, Keighley.

I have no idea when it was taken, but possibly 1920/30s.
Does anyone have any ideas about where this was or what profession he could have been with or even recognise him???

Would be grateful for any help.

I live in Keighley now and there is still a Hanover Street, but no Wellington Yard.  There is a small road opposite Hanover Street called Wellington Street.  These are now shops/businesses as they are in the centre of town.  I think that the DSS building backs onto Wellington Street, sorry to be of no help.  I will ask older rellies who lived in Keighley if they know what used to be there.

Hi CJ

Thank you for the message.

I mentioned Wellington Yard as that is what is written on the back of the photo.  Is there a railway nearby?

I put in a search on the National Archives yesterday but came up with nothing from there either.
Mystery time again!!

Yes the railway station is not very far from the yard, however I do not think that it would have been the railway's yard as it isn't that near.  I looked on curious fox for the map but it isn't detailed enough.  I posted my last messsage before reading your last one.   Ian Dewhirst may be useful to you.  I know he has a lot of books along with photos of the Keighley area.  There are loads of mentions of him on the internet.  (I am researching the Dewhirst line and his name keeps "getting in the way"!!)

Good luck
