Armstrong

Does anyone recognise John Armstrong.

He married Isabel Little around 1820 -  I suspect in the Canonbie area. They had 6 children - Thomas, Robert, Isabella, John, Hugh and Julia.

According to the IGI John and Isabella were both born in 1796 but I'm no sure and can't trace them back any further.

Any help would be appreciated.

Louise

Hi Louise

Isabella (Isabel) Armstrong is showing as a widow by the 1851 census. Have a look at  http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/historicalindexes/census.aspx   She is down as age 54, so the IGI entry would seem fairly accurate. Julia and Hugh are still showing as living at home.  All three born Canonbie.

Regards.

Monica

Dear LC
I see you have a family of Armstrongs from Canonbie which includes a 'Robert'.

I have a Robert ARMSTRONG from Canonbie who was father to my Gt Grandmother Agnes JACKSON/ARMSTRONG. She was illegitimate.

What I know of him is that he was a farm servant working at a farm called ORCHARD in 1854. That he was the father of Agnes. Her mother was Charters Jackson.

Do you have any more information on this family I can follow up or do you know anything about Robert. Long shot I know but he must have been born around the right time and it looks like he could be a farm servant as his mother .

Also Agnes named on of her children 'Julia' and I wondered where she had got it from. A tenuous link but I am at a loss about him.

Any information would be gratefully received.

Thank you.

A quick after thought - was your ROBERT ARMSTRONG born in 1831 or close to that date.

Thank you

Hi Im hopingg this reaches JEffrey post about the Armstrongs?!
I have done a lot of work on this side, as I am related by marriage.  If you want some help, just let me know.  There is a Charters and a Charteris on the tree, any my sister in law is called Julie after her fathers grandmother i think.
