2 Husbands at the same time???

Can someone help me solve a mystery?
On the 1901 census I have the following.
41 Nelson St. Grimsby?
William DAVY 46 Tug boat man b. Boston.
Ada A DAVY wife 26 b. Wrangle.

Then .......

Still the 1901 census.
Ada A Davy b. abt. 1875 Wrangle Lincs Wife
Thomas FREIMAN b. abt. 1860 Udimore Sussex


Now Ada A did indeed marry both men, William in 1900 and Thomas sometime after 1915, so how on earth is she on the census twice????

Please help someone!!

Hi Pauline

Not quite sure about the second one - if she's the wife of Thomas Frieman, why is she called Ada Davy?  ???


Could she be married, but simply not to him? (Though what was she doing there? You say she married him later? I think mabe we know...!)

Could the enumerator have called in at the Davy household, then Ada popped down the road and was caught (in more ways than one!) a second time?

Oh my goodness - I never thought of that!  :o

William had been married before, and I just recently asked my ex brother-in-law if he knew his dad had a half sister. Not a whisper!
Maybe there was some sort of scandal?
Thanks for your thoughts anyway - something to think about tonight!!

I am afraid it is the way the census has been transcribed.  Ada is not on the census twice, in fact Thomas Frieman is her and William's neighbour!

Thankyou very much for that - I hope my Ada Annie was behaving herself!  Thats the third time I've come across a rellie marrying the lodger or the man next door!!!
