I'd be very grateful for any supplementary info from SDGW on my rellies:

Sydney JAMES - Corporal, Royal Welsh Fusiliers - d. 1916

Harry GOODWIN - Private, Sth Staffs Regt - d. Somme, 1916

Alfred Edwin SHAPLEY - Lieut, Northumberland Fusiliers - d. Somme, 1916

James McConning POTTS - Lieut, 2nd Bn Canadian Infantry - d. 1918

Potts is a canadian and doesn't appear in SDGW but his papers are on line here

all it says in SDGW canadian version is that he was killed in action aged 23,mack
military history,mainly ww1,manchester pals battalions,tyneside irish +tyneside scottish brigades,leeds,liverpool,accrington,birmingham,hull,barnsley,swansea and salford pals.

his canadian attestation papers are full of information,  down to him being 5' 6" fair hair and of the Wesleyian faith!

Yep - that's my guy, "cousin Jim".  Went off to Canada as a teenager (as far as I can see), and wasn't on speaking terms with his father when he died...  Sent my grandma (his aunt) lovely embroidered postcards from France, and died "rushing a machine gun post".   Invented the middle name McConning - blowed if I can find anything to explain it, becaude he's plain James Potts on his birth cert..

Thanks for the lookups - what's a 1st July man?   ???
