Hi Acky

Bit of a muddle this one ::)

Could this be him in 1891 and 1901 or are these different Bemjamin ISAACS'?

1901

32 Arthur Road, Islington

Benjamin ISAACS head mar 66 cabman b.Mile End? London
Mary wife 68 nurse b.Marylebone

Rg13/199 folio 68 page 13
.................

1891

40 Charrington Street, St Pancras

Benjamin ISAACS head mar 58 cabman b.Strand London
Mary wife 57 b.Marylebone
Alice dau unm 25 b.St Pancras
Jane WARD servant 14 general domestic servant b.St Pancras

Rg12/127 folio 14 page 22

Do you have a copy of Benjamin's marriage certificate which might give some details on his father?

Hi Acky

Do you think that is your Benjamin in 1901 and 1891 that I have posted above?

I have found a couple of Benjamins in 1861 and 1851 but they are not living with family ie. in lodgings or in service so not much help there and no way of telling if they are the same Benjamin really :-\

Have you found Benjamin's marriage?

Ok, if we post the 1881 and 1871 here then it will help everybody to see ..................

1881

129 Pentonville Road, Clerkenwell

Benjamin ISAACS head mar 46 cab driver b.Middlesex
Mary wife 45 b.City London
George son 16 b. (not sure if the ditto is for City London or just for London)
Alice dau 14 b.Marylebone Middlesex

RG11/349 folio 12 page 19
.....................

1871

32 Penton Place, Clerkenwell

Benjamin ISAACS head mar 34 cab driver b.London
Elizabeth 33 b.St George's London
Alice dau 6 b.St Pancras Middlesex
George son 3 b.Islington
Mary FEIST mother wid 67 housekeeper b.Durham
Katey niece orphan 9 b.Brighton
William FITZGERALD lodger unm 27 broker's assistant b.Tower Hamlets? London

RG10/384 folio 8 page 9

Odd how the ages of the children (Alice and George) are muddled up if both the 1871 and 1881 are the same family ???
......................

Benjamin ISAACS married Elizabeth Mary FEIST in the March quarter of 1870 in the Holborn registration district ref. 1b 641.  If you have a copy of this marriage, perhaps you could dig it out and tell us what it says - otherwise I would very much suggest ordering a copy.  I am wondering if Mary and Elizabeth (Benjamin's wife) on the census returns are both the same person if her name was actually Elizabeth Mary - possibly used both names at times ???

Now this looks interesting as this marriage took place quite a few years after George and Alice were born - do you know who your George's mother was ie. have you got a birth certificate for him?

There's certainly some sorting out to do here ;)
