damn - my image didn't insert.  I'll try again

2nd attempt worked - yippee!

This rather stern lady wants to look her best for the photographer.  Please could anyone do a little repair work? (please - no colour)

Also - how old would you say she is?  She was born in 1837 and died after the 1901 census (I don't know when)

Thanks to Berlin Bob's post explaining "how to", I'm feeling much better now.

Mary Ann is looking a bit rough and needs help.

I'd say she was in her mid 60s, but its sometimes difficult to tell ages in these older pictures. Hardship ages faces, and our ancestors certainly had their fair share of those!

I don't think she looks stern, though. Looks to me like there's a glint in her eyes of a slightly mischievous character, and looks like she'd have been a sweet old lady.

Shouldn't take much to clean her picture up, but I'm stuck at work with no photo software. Bah!

Hi Phillip,

Well I think you are wrong!!  :o :o

I agree with Glen - I bet she burst out laughing as soon as she was told she could move by the photographer - she has that fixed look on her face but her eyes give her away!!  ;D

Anyway - we will probably never know who is correct - see if my cleaned up version gives you a better feel for your 60 year old relative.

Cheers

Keith

Many, many thanks Keith and Sharon.  MaryAnn was described as "formidable" by her granddaughter (my gran), but Glen has a point = there is a spark in the eye.

When I hear people say that about their elderly relatives, I just think, they were children once too, and played just as we did.
