Captain James Boomer Charters 1794-1861
« on: Saturday 01 April 06 03:20 BST (UK) »
Can someone please advise me if Captain James Boomer Charters b28.4.1794 County Antrim, is likely to have been an Army Captain. The  gravestone of a son indicates that his father was an Army Captain and farmer.
He married Anne Skelton C1826 Camlin and the family lived at "Glendona",Gobrana.
If he was serving overseas it is possible he met Anne in England.
They are both buried Muckamore Cemetery as are other family members.
Help greatly appreciated.

Hello Annie
Thanks for your quick reply.
This certainly is the same family.
The James I am looking for was the eldest son of Alexander Charters and Eleanor Mackey.
Another son Alexander b1808 went to the Rock River Valley where he was nicknamed "Governor". This is a story in itself.
My grandmother was a Charters and she was a granddaughter of Captain James Charters.
I have a substantial history of "The Charters Family of Antrim".
Several Charters came to Australia.Charters Towers Queensland was named after William Skelton Ewbank Melbourne Charters.

I just checked the Indian Mutiny list - and the only Charters - is a William - who was a Hospital

Sergeant with 1st Battalion 24th Foot (2nd Warwickshire)

I'll keep looking !
