Marriage of Cecilia Wesley
« on: Monday 03 April 06 20:00 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have just come across your very interesting site and hope it may unearth some of the info I have been looking for:- "When and where was my G.Grandmother married?"
She was born in 1846 in Cambridgeshire, England and emigrated with her family to SA on a ship called "Zenobia" which arrived in the Cape on 6Sept.1850 (details come from  www.rootsweb.com/~zafgssa/Eng/Articles.html)
Whilst there she met a British RN seaman called HENRY VILE and, according to my family, married him.
Also while there her name changed from CELIA WESTLEY to CECILIA WESLEY.
Henry Vile was stationed in the Cape from 1864 to 1866 and returned to England in July 1866 aboard the RM steamer "Norseman".
I don't know if they were married by then or if Cecilia was on the same ship home.
I do know that she had a child in England early in 1867.
I cannot find any clues to them being married either in British RN records or other British records - so perhaps they did marry in SA.
Any help towards my goal would be greatly appreciated,
Kind regards,
Jay Middleton

Hi Jay,

Do you have any idea about what denomination she/her husband might have been?

Hi Leanne,
I'm pretty sure that my ancestors would have been Wesleyan Methodists since my Grandmother used to have letters etc which once belonged to the famous pair John and Charles.
Hope this will help,
kind regards
