O'Byrne Ireland - Scotland
« on: Tuesday 04 April 06 09:15 BST (UK) »
Searching for birth details of Michael O'Byrne circa 1830. Have no idea where in Ireland he may have come from - Scottish Census records only state birthplace Ireland.

Michael emigrated to Scotland prior to 1853. In that year at age 23 he married Elizabeth Duffy in Glasgow (Partick). Michael was a Ship Caulker so the family lived mainly in Partick close to the shipyards on the Clyde.

Michael may have had a brother Peter, 10 years his junior who also married in Glasgow (Partick) in 1863 at age 22. (Unable to confirm that Peter is Michael's brother but the marraige record shows they lived in the same district in Glasgow and had the same job. Father's name and job is identical as is mother forename).

Michael died in 1895 and this is the only BMD record I have for him. Father's name was Patrick O'Byrne amd mother's name Ann(e) - surname is unclear from the copy. From the BMD record for Peter - father name is Patrick O'Byrne and mother (deceased) is Ann(e) McMassey(?).

Can anyone help with my search?

Thanks,
Paul.

Audrey,

Thanks for your help.

I know for certain that Michael was born around 1829, 1830 or 1831 as I have several Scottish census records for him.

I noted with interest that you use the Sewell coat of arms. Also have a Sewell in my family line. Elizabeth SEWELL b-1889(?), where(?), married age 20 in 1901 in Glasgow, died 1927 in Glasgow. Husband William John Bell is also from Ireland (?) but checking that out elsewhere on this site. Elizabeth's parents were Joseph SEWELL and Ann Creaney(?). Don't have any information on them but only know that Joseph was already deceased at time of Elizabeth's marriage and Ann had remarried (Mullen).

Again, thanks for your help.

Paul.
