I have come across some possible connection in Norfolk and need to know if the place names Burgh and Ryburgh refer to the same place.

There is a Burgh in Suffolk (near Ipswich), but I'm not aware of a Ryburgh in either Norfolk or Suffolk.

If you give a bit more info, perhaps we can help.

Hi Colin,

check out the Norfolk Transcription Archives

under Parishes they have

Parish                                 District
Burgh Apton                           Loddon & Clavering
Burgh next Aylsham                 Aylsham
Burgh St.Margaret & St.Mary   Flegg
Burgh St.Peter                         Loddon & Clavering

and
Ryburgh Magna                       Walsingham
Ryburgh Parva                         Walsingham

not conclusive, but not looking good  :(

Hi Bob,

Thanks for this.  I was heading in the direction that they were not the same but was being persuaded they were by similar ages and occupations of common names.

Thanks, Colin
