CHARLESWORTH FAMILY LEEDS
« on: Monday 11 October 04 14:38 BST (UK) »
Looking for information of the family of Isaac Charlesworth born ab. 1826 chr. St Peters Leeds.  I think his parents were Jonathan and Sarah.  They moved to London sometime before 1861.  If anyone has any info on the family please contact me.

nan, do you know if this family emigrated to the US?  I grew up with a Virginia Charlesworth.  I always thought it was an unusual name.  Or are you just starting out?  They were members for years of the First Presbyterian Church in Royal Oak, MI.  In fact, I knew her in high school in Royal Oak and had no idea her family were members there.  I knew of the family at the church many years later.  So they were long established.  RedFox

Hi Redfox

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner.  I had to put family history on the back burner for a while.  I have no idea if any of the siblings went to the USA, although I am aware that one went to Australia.  This family left Leeds between 1830 and 1850 and went to live in London.  I am just having trouble tracing them before they moved to London,  I think a trip to Leeds is called for.

Hi
I haven't made a connection between the Leeds family and that from Holmfirth but you never know.  I don't seem to be getting very far with this line at the moment but when I breakthrough I will be in touch. Cheers

Hi Nan

I do a lot pf research in the Leeds archives - I am due there tomorrow if you would like me to do any look-ups for you.

Would the baptism help ?  It may give an occupation or abode.

The bap. you refer to I think (30 April 1826) for Isaac - he also had a sister - Martha baptised (31 Aug 1828)

on a search I found Isaac - who I believe to be the one above -

1871 - at Drury Lane, London
Isaac CHARLEWORTH   Head  M  44  Tobacconist  B: Leeds
Hannah       "                wife    M  42      B: Barnsley
Edward       "                 son    Un 16  Tpbacconist Ass. B: St Pancras

1881 - 43 Gloucester St., London
Isaac CHARLESWORTH  Head  M  54  Tobacco cutter  B: Leeds
Mary Ann       "               wife   M   56                  B: Birmingham

cheers !

Hi Kathy
Yes Please.  Anything you could find would be great and I would really appreciate it.  The family you found is the right one.  I believe that Isaac's parents were a Jonathan and Sarah Charlesworth and I think I have found them on the 1871 census in London.  I think Jonathan was something in the cloth industry.  I have a copy of Isaac's second marriage to Mary Ann Cayford but not sure where he married his first wife, Hannah.  I keep saying I must go up to Leeds and look things up but the opportunity just hasn't arisen.   I am really grateful for any help you can give me.
