Hi Celia

Very Sorry - but my census information for 1851 covers the Eastern part of the County and unfortunately PETWORTH is near Chichester in the Western half of the county of Sussex.

I am sorry

Hi

Thanks for the private - I eat my supper when the wife gives it to me, bless her - if she does not give me any, then I go without.

Your Query

I am looking for any information on the following:
George PETERS b. 1812 Bexhill, Sussex who married a Harriet ELRIDGE in 1845 in Westfield, Sussex.

HO107/ 1636/ Folio 179/ Page 54 – Lodge, Westfield.

Also Richard BREEDS (father of above mentioned) who was born 1800 and married Benedicta in 1825.

HO 107/ 1635/ Folio 172/ Page 72 – Tamarisk Steps, Old Town, Hastings.
BREEDS Richard, Head, Marr, 61, Fisherman, born Hastings
Benedicta, Wife, Marr, 50, Fishermans wife, born Hastings.
Maria B, Dau, Unm, 15, born Hastings
Mary Ann, Dau, Unm, 13, born Hastings
Edward, Son, Unm, 8, born Hastings

“Few fishermen go by their proper names, nicknames are universal.  A man may be christened Tom Smith, but few people know who was meant under that name – amongst his comrades he may be known by some queer term as Tipper, Toller, Wintry, Podger, etc.

Breede Fishermen were known by the nicknames:
Tiny. Bones, Cockem, Old Beardy, Old Towse and Bobey Rucks.

“Historic Hastings” by John Manwaring Baines

Breeds Place in Hastings was completed in 1828 by James Landsdell, who married Martha Breeds, a member of an old Hastings Family.  First inhabitant of Breeds place was ‘The Duchess of Marlborough’

Still looking for the others

Chris in 1066Land (Hastings)

PS - Richard Wenham could not be born 50 years after he was married ???????
