1851/1861 lookup please
« on: Monday 10 April 06 18:08 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me find William and Marion McIntyre in the 1851 and 1861 census for Ontario?.I can't find any online census records for 1851/1861 for Bruce County.
They were both born in 1822 in Scotland and I would love to know if they had any children after emigrating in 1843. Marion is buried in Kincardine cemetery, Bruce County.
Thank you,
Elisabeth

Hi Elisabeth,

I'm not sure if my library has the 1851, but will have a look next time I am there.  Maybe someone in the meantime might know if the 1851 is on-line, I'm not sure if it is.

Do you want information on the children if we find it?

Here's a link to the 1851 census in Ontario.  It looks like you have to send an email to the fellow who has the index of names.

Yes, please. I'd still like the information. I will email the link you gave me- I had actually seen it before and thought it was a link to buying the published index. Considering how long I've been waiting for the 1871 census full entry for William McIntyre to be posted from Canada, I was deterred from asking for anything else to be sent by mail to Scotland.

Hi Elisabeth,

My libarary did not have the 1851, however they do have the 1871, so I looked it for you:

William McIntyre, age 48, Born Scotland, Saw Miller
Marion, age 48, born Scotland
Bellaru (?), age 21, born W States
William, age 19, born W States
Jannet, age 16, born Ontario
James, age 14, born Ontario
Agnes, age 9, born Ontario
George, age 7, born Ontario

Next Household listed underneath

John McIntyre, age 26, born W States
Marian, age 20, born Ireland
William, 2 months, born Ontario

That Bellaru (?) must be Isabella...

That's perfect, Karen. The names tie up with the 2 households that are next to each other in Cass County, North Dakota in 1880.I've followed up some of William and Marion' s grandchildren and they have the middle name of Rennie, Marion's maiden name, so it's no longer just guesswork. This means I can link the McIntyres in ND, Montana and Ontario in the 1930s to Rennies in Alva, Scotland way back to 1655. This research is not just for me but for my 83 year old mother in Alva.
I am enormously grateful to you,
Elisabeth
