Hello again,

Some more info - paulfarthing - I think you may have contacted me before too; it looks as thought your wife & I are also cousins, just not sure if it's 2nd or 3rd. This is what I have established about my Nana's twin brother which your wife may r may not be able to corroborate:

-Arthur S Golby Edmonds => Arthur S Hitchens
-Twin to Margaret Isobel Golby Edmonds both b. 1906 => Margaret "Bella" Bradshaw-
-Married Rita Adeline Seward in 1925 (or thereabouts)
-Arthur passed 1981, Croydon Park NSW
-Lived 1930 in Newtown (electoral role)
-Lived 1933 in same address in Newtown (as above)
-Lived 1936 St Peters (electoral role)

I'm not sure when Arthur changed his name but the inheritance bit is starting to ring true, either that or they changed their names because they all/most were fostered out & decided to do so of their own accord...

Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Kelly

Sorry for third immediate post, but I now have a question:

Does anyone have any knowledge/info on one Sylvia J (Jean?) Bradshaw? She was married to one Arthur T Humphries and as she was a Bradshaw I'm wondering if maybe she is a sister to John Bradshaw who adopted my Nana Margaret Isobel Golby Edmonds AKA Bella Bradshaw? Greggiebear?

Many thanks!

Kelly

Kelly, (and others)

The four girls fostered by John Bradshaw and his wife, Louisa, were Isabella (nee Golby Edmonds), Gladys May (Farmer), Sylvia Jean (Graham ) and Daisy Jean (Coxhead). I have had contact with a daughter of Gladys (who married Arthur T. Firth and had four children) and never talked about her childhood and the son of Sylvia (who married Frank Humphries and had three sons).

Gladys and Sylvia were adopted (adoption didn't start until the mid 1910s) and both became "Bradshaws".

My great grandfather Thomas Bradshaw seems to have had a falling out with his mother who remarried shortly after the death of his father. (He fell to his death from the tower of the Sydney GPO in 1885 when they were dismantling the scaffolding.) So we never heard about or met either his brother or sister or any of their children. Strange isn't it? My father, an only child, passed away in 1984 so I can't check with him.

I didn't know about John Bradshaw until the wife (now deceased) of Arthur Humphries contacted me via GenesReunited, to see what info I might have had about Arthur's mum Gladys). So it all came as a surprise to me. None of the "children" I have contacted have any clues as to how the fosterings came about and so forth. John and Louisa had no natural offspring, Louisa had some children from a previous marriage. Some of these may have lived with John and Louisa, but no-one knows.

Hope this clears some things up.

Greg

Hi all, have just joined this forum and was quite excited to see other folk are interested in John Thomas Edmonds. He is my great grandfather.  He married Mary Isabel Golby and they had a number of children born in sydney, one of them being by grandfather Albert Leslie Edmonds.  He was estranged from the family (he always said that he threw a log into the river to save someone they were playing with and the other child subsequently died and that he was put into a home). Poppy was a bit of a larrikin so was probably a handful as a kid.  John Thomas Edmonds seems to have disappeard from before 1909.  Mary lived with Sydney Ernest Gaffey and had children with him from 1909.  They married in 1934. I havent been able to find out if they divorced or not.   I have sent for a Queensland Death Cert of a John Thomas Edmonds who died in 1932- it could be him.
Anyway, hope to hear from someone soon. Julie

herveybayoldgirl22 your 2nd photo posted is that of Joyce Eilene Gaffey on her wedding day to Bruce Leo Garstang (my aunt and uncle). Joyce was daughter to Thomas Sidney and Kathleen Mabel Gaffey ( dont confuse this Joyce with Thomas's sister also a Joyce). Thomas Sidney was "married" 3 times that i know of to Kathleen, Lorna and Dot. I remember my Pop Tom reasonably well and saw him immediatly before he passed away from a brain tumor & complications. I have tracked back the Thomas Sidney Gaffey side to when they came to Aus, but the Golby side is confusing @ this time. Both Joyce (nee Gaffey) and Bruce Garstang passed away in 2001 & 2003. Thomas Sidney Gaffey is cremated at Rookwood Sydney.

Hi Herveybay, the Gaffeys are a complex crowd. I assume your the granddaughter of Nola who was Thomas Sidney's 2nd wife (he had at least 3). I also assume you are the daughter of Leslie. I am the son (John Barrett) of Thomas Sidneys Daughter to his First Marriage(kathleen)  Patricia Gaffey (Barrett) , I can confirm the pics you posted are 1. Nola and leslie possibly taken at Homebush NSW on the site of the now Markets, 2. Joyce Gaffey & Bruce Garstang on their wedding day Flemington NSW ( joyce is Leslies stepsister) and 3. is Nola and baby leslie (so hidden but i am sure she is cute) i can't confirm the other lady. I have pics of Thomas Sidney i will copy and email and a rough Gaffey Family Tree.  Regards JB
