Hi Christine,

I don't see any connections with my own family, but certainly the locations are all familiar to me. My wife had "Black" ancestors who lived at Hoggie in the late 18th century. Croft of Aultmore was just a small group of about 4 crofts, so our families must have been close neighbours. The Currie's in my family seemed to flit back and forth between Deskford and niegbouring parish Grange, with regularity, so you may well want to look for possible records in Grange parish, or indeed Fordyce parish, which also seemed to have close connections with Deskford in days of yore! Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Hi Christine
Have just joined the site and noticed that we share John Nicol of Hoggie as an ancestor.I am  the Great Grandson of James Nicol ,Rope & Sailmaker of Portsoy [B. 1827] in Forglen Parish.
From death cert. of James's father[also James] came verification of marriage of John Nicol & Margaret Currie .Working on suitable dates found Margaret born To George Currie & Margaret Christie, in Little Dytach on15/05/1776.Like you stuck with John Nicol. What line are you descended from Christine ?
Robert

Hi Christine,
Attached are some OPRs which may be relevant to your search.
1] Death cert of 1877 for James ,son of John. Shows Alexander present at death in no8 Tocher St.
MacDuff, also confirms that parents were John & Margaret Currie.
2] 1841 Census shows Alexander residing at Tocher St. So family house for for at least 36 years.
3]  OPR for Birth of Margaet Christie [Wife of John ]
Like you unable to verify prior to John, however, good chance Walter & Bathia may  be the parents..just got to confirm this somehow..

I'm brand new at this but I can clearly see family connections. I am a grand daughter of John Donald Nicol who was b. May 26, 1879, 3 Tocker St., Macduff (married to Margaret b. Nov 1882,  but I don't have her last name) His parents were Alexander Nicol b. abt 1840 in Macduff, and Mary Donald b. abt 1842, Aberdeenshire, Cluny. His parents were James Nicol and Janet Robb. Her parents were John Donald and Margaret Duthie.

John Donald's siblings, as I have them, are Jessie, Mary J, and Alexander all born in Macduff. John Donald Nicol served in the Boer War. He moved to Canada.

I only began searching his roots this week so have not managed to go back further than  Alexander and Mary's OPR Marriage Cert. either, but I have a few more bits about John Donald and his brother Alex.

Dear SJDB,

I too am descended from John Donald & Margaret Duthie of Cluny, Aberdeenshire and would be very interested in exchanging information with you.  I descend from their youngest daughter, Margaret.

Please get in contact.

Yours sincerely,

Hi Genealogst1
It's good to hear from you and find yet another link to our family tree. If I understand correctly, your relative, Margaret, would have been a sister-in-law//sister of my great grand parents, Alexander Nicol and Mary Donald Nicol. Is that right?
