Esholt Hall, Esholt
« on: Thursday 13 April 06 15:37 BST (UK) »
Hi all!

Yes, another query!
One of my ancestors worked as a servant in Esholt Hall, Esholt (about 8 miles North from Bradford.)
There are a few things I am a bit stuck on:
~How do I find out who owned the Hall when my ancestor was working there?
~Can I find out what her position was?

Any info at all would be greatly appreciated I am so so stick on this one :) !

Happy Hunting!

William SYKES is also a great interest of mine because i cant seem to find him! Born c.1840 "Iron Chapel" Bradford.
Thanks!!!

Brilliant thank you so much!
Her name was Elizabeth Haw/e who was born in 1815 in Well, Yorkshire.
I'm not sure at what age she started working there, I'm guessing around about 1830 when she was about 15 years old?
She left in 1838 because she became pregnant with another servants baby!
All I have to go on is that she was a "servant at Esholt Hall prior to her marriage"
(she ended up marrying the guy who got her pregnant!)

Hope this is enough to go on?

Thanka again :)

A bit further back than I expected :) The census will not help us I'm afraid. I have found some information about Esholt Hall and in the 1860's a family called Stanfield were the owners. They owned a few mills in the area and I will send you a PM where you can see a photograph of the hall and information about the family. :)

I tried the 1851 census, but there were only servants listed at Esholt Hall, the family must have been away :) :) :) :) :)

Have a look on the A2A site and see if there are any references to it on that.  May bring up the owners if it changed hands or anything.  there is a bit on google but I assume you have tried that.
