1841 Houghton Conquest-Burnage
« on: Friday 14 April 06 17:32 BST (UK) »
Hi, can someone kindly look up the following persons for me on the 1841 census.

James Burnage born Houghton Conquest abt 1811

He married in 1843.  Am trying to establish his parents are, his father I think was called Thomas and his mother may have been called Susanna.  At the moment the christening date I have is not tying in with birth date so am hoping census can help confirm this.

Second individual is an Edward Burnage born date unknown but should be with his wife Edith.  Am trying to find a connection to the two Burnage persons.

Any help offered much appreciated.  Thanks in advance

HO107/006-10 folio 12B
Town, Houghton Conquest
Thomas Burnage 75 ag lab
Susan Burnage 70
Jane Burnage 35
Mary Burnage  30
James Burnage 25 Ag lab
George Burnage 20
Ann Burnage 15
All born in county

Ages over 15 in 1841 were rounded down to the nearest 5 below so 25 would cover actual ages between 25 and 29, so James' age is consistent with the christening on the IGI of 1 Aug 1813.  I take it you mean that his age as quoted in subsequent censuses is a couple of years adrift of the 1813 christening.  Perhaps he was hiding the fact that he was younger than his wife. Or perhaps he was a couple of years old when he was baptised, as was his sister Sarah in 1810, and the 1841 is incorrect with his age.  But he gave his father as Thomas on his 1843 marriage (IGI).

1841 is not indexed so I need to know where to look for Edward.

The only Edward and Edith on the IGI were married in 1846 at Biggleswade and had children baptised in Edworth Beds. In 1861 Edward was 47 birthplace Edworth, and Edith was 46 born Dunton.

David

Hi, thanks for the information regarding James.

With regards to Edward, the 1851 census gives him as being born in Edworth, am a bit confused about his marriage date as the LDS give it as 1836 but you have said it's 1846 so will have to look into that further.

If you could find him in 1841 it would be very helpful, especially if he is with Edith as this would confirm their marriage date, however it would also be helpful if he was still with his parents as this is the information I'm trying to locate!....

Thanks again for all your help

Thanks!  There weren't that many Burnage's in Bedfordshire at this time, so they must all be linked somehow, am working with another Burnage descendant to try and establish a link between our families.  The information you have provided has been a great help.  Thanks once again
