« on: Tuesday 18 April 06 21:11 BST (UK) »
Realising that the name Graham is very common in Dromore, I live in hope that someone may respond to this.
John Graham was born in Dromore in 1848, he joined the Royal Artillery in sep.1867and enlisted in Dublin.
John married ANNE ELIZABETH WARD on the Island of Saint Helena, in his time he fatherd  six + children. John and Anne is beleived to have died in Belfast????
If any facts here rings a bell with anyone , could they please contact me.
                       Thanks.
                           Kenith.

Kenith, www.familysearch.com seemed a good place for me to start, the last entry being a Pedigree Resource File

John Graham     Compact Disc #99     Pin #947668
 Sex: M
Birth:  1848  Place:   , , Ireland
Parents:
Father:  James Graham     Disc #99     Pin #947662
Mother:  Sarah      Disc #99     Pin #947663
Submitter: ALBERT .MCCRACKEN 2F RATHCOOLE,CLOSE RATHCOOLE NEWTOWNABBEY

However that probably isnt Dromore or Albert would have mentioned it and yet?

Then still in familysearch.com,  I looked for Grahams in St Helena and found Agnes Graham   Birth:  17 DEC 1870   , Saint Helena, Atlantic Islands Spouse:  Ellis George  Family  Marriage:  12 SEP 1892   St James Church, , Saint Helena, Atlantic Islands  Death 25 MAR 1926 This Record submitted after 1991 by a member of the LDS Church. No additional information is available. Ancestral File may list the same family and the submitter.

UHF Ulster Historical Foundation ie www.ancestryireland.co.uk/ If you use their search system, you will get a report which starts with Birth records for Antrim and Down,  then Marriage records for Antrim and Down , then Irish ancestors being researched (members interests), then Distribution of Surnames in Ulster ( 9 counties) in the mid-1800’s [ie Mathesons Database] , then Ulster Historical Foundation Research Files  and so on. You can look up say the births and you will get first names and a year and a county, only then do you have to pay to view the entry to get any more detail. In the marriage section. I have learnt to match the dates shown for husband and spouse, thus reducing the possible marriage dates, nevertheless you then need to check it out. Members interests could contain your family being researched already.  The UHF has a sister website accessible ‘ History from Headstones’ here is a great first line of knowledge, you search by county and surname, again at some point you you have to pay to view the entry to get any more detail. It’s a little bit irritating when one knows they have published many of the series edited by Richard SJ Clarke .  Anyway back to the main UHF search engine, you will need to look it up, but heres one group of possible extracts
Birth Record GRAHAM JOHN 1847    Co down
Birth Record GRAHAM JOHN 1848    Co down
Births GRAHAM JOHN 1848    Down
Birth Record GRAHAM JOHN 1849    Co down

Then I wondered about his army record including did he get a pension etc
Sorry I cant be of much more help, Good luck, Jim
