Valentine Charles Sinnott

I am interested in all things Sinnott, quite lucky really because that’s my surname, I recently picked up a pair of World War one medals to a chap called Valentine Charles Sinnott, the only information I have at the moment is he served in the 7th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment as a private, enlisting 11.12.1915 only to be discharged 10.11.1916 due to shell-shock and wounds, its only a guess but with him enlisting in 1915 I would guess he would have been between 18-20 years old at the time, making his birth date roughly sometime around 1895-98ish, any help in tracing the mans history would be most welcome, many thanks in advance.

Hi Sinnott

Guess you have his Medal card then showing his Regimental Number as 4724, how did you find out that he was discharged due to shell-shock and wounds.

Have you looked for him on the 1901 Census?

Hi Wendy, yes I have his MIC and thats where it shows his discharge due to wounds, have done a quick search on the 1901 census but can't seem to find anyone that fits, the name Sinnott is possibly Irish so maybe he came over to join up ? Is there anyway to check Irish (southern) online, cheers Wayne

found the following information on Family History Online;

. Name Valentine C. SINNOTT Relationship Son Condition – Gender M Age 13 Occupation Scholar Birthplace Southampton, Hampshire, England Address 2 Victoria Villas York Terrance York Street, Southampton St Mary, Hampshire, England PRO ref RG11/1205 Folio 62 Page 11 FHL film no. 1341295

Thing that worries me is this is from the 1881 census so that would make Valentine around 46 or 47 ! very late to be joining the army, so I dont think he is my man.

1901 census:
RG13/1059/85/25 - 2 Birmingham St, Southampton
Emily Sinnott  Head  W  33  Lodging House Keeper  Frome, Somerset
Lily Sinnott  Dau  14  Domestic Servant  Southampton
Palantine Sinnott (sic)  Son  8  Southampton
Olive Sinnott  Dau  3  Southampton
Ann Collington  Visitor  W  74  Ret Lodging House Keeper  Fareham
Percy Broomfield  Boarder  19  Bricklayer  Fareham
John W Piper  Visitor  28  Commission Agent  Croydon

I haven't found Emily or Lily under Sinnott in 1891, but if this is the correct marriage entry from FreeBMD, Lily is her child from a previous marriage (or illegitimate):

Marriages Dec 1891 - Southampton 2c 11
BLANCHARD   Florence Fanny L
KELSTON   Emily Barber
SINNOTT    Valentine Charles

WILSON    William Henry

Deaths Mar 1898 - Southampton 2c 16
SINNOTT    Valentine Charles    30

Do you want census data for Valentine Sr?

Many thanks Daisypetal and Rambler, will need to try and get hold of his military records if they survived to see if I can confirm the details, is there any good researchers on this forum who I can contact, thanks again, Sinnott.
