Hello,
If you look on the IGI (International Genealogical Index) you will see that there is a Joseph Phillips, born 1824, in the parish of Kilnagross, co. Cork.
His father, Walter Phillips; his spouse, Eliza Kemp, married 01 Nov. 1849.
At least this gives you the parish.
A map of the area is always a good idea, try to get hold of the Discovery Series for that area of Cork if you don't already have one.
Sean Ruad's IreAtlas Townland Database website lists all the townlands in each parish.
Let us know what else you need!

Good luck!
